This Page includes an Overview of the Need to Feed Project and three of its Initiatives... To Distribute Food, To Supply Food, and To Serve Food
|
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Through the efforts of the Need to Feed Clayton Community Food Committee, the distribution of food to those
in need was increased from four to five days weekly and to six days weekly every third Saturday of the Month.
The distribution schedule of food by the Churches in the Clayton area is now as follows:
Clayton Area Ministries (CAM) -- every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
St. Ann Catholic Church -- every Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church -- every Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The West Clayton Church of God -- third Saturday of every month from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
The New Bethel Church -- third Saturday of every month from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
In order to distribute food five days weekly it was necessary to add Tuesday's to the distribution schedule at CAM.
Previously no food was distributed at this location on Tuesday's. To do so, however, volunteers were needed. This is
where STNinJC stepped in. Effective March 2, 2010, volunteers from the STNinJC began the Tuesday distribution schedule
at CAM from 1:00 to 3:00. This was shortly followed by members from St. Ann Catholic Church and Horne Memorial
Methodist Church who also volunteer on a weekly basis. If you wish to volunteer to distribute food on any Tuesday at CAM
from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Proceed to the ...
CAM Initiative Page
Here you will find the Tuesday Schedule where the number of volunteers and the names of volunteers who have signed for
any given Tuesday appear. Volunteers are needed for any Tuesday where there are less than three volunteers.
The Clayton Community Food Committee having accomplished one of its first Objectives, that being to increase the number
of days food is distributed at food banks in Clayton, the Committee was ready to focus on yet another Objective -- to
increase the supply of food to be distributed.
This was the start of the FOOD BIN Initiative.

In view of the critical economic times presently before us, more and more families are without sufficient food. In
the Clayton area alone, it is estimated that there are approximately 15,000 to 20,000 persons in need of food.
Through the initiative of the President and Vice-President of the STNinJC, Inc. and with the full backing of the Executive
Board, a plan was set forth in January 2010 for the STNinJC to take the lead in helping to address this concern in the
Clayton area. Norwood Williams and Royal Williams started by meeting individually with local church leaders where it
was soon became apparent that this initiative could only be achieved through the joint and combined efforts of local
churches and organizations. Thus, a "Need to Feed" - Project was initiated in Clayton and a "Need to Feed"
Clayton Community Food Project Committee formed.
The Committee is chaired by Norwood, Co-Chaired by Royal Williams, and the Project Coordinator is Chris
Ludke. The following five Church representatives serve on the Committee; namely, Dale Matthews - Clayton
Area Ministries (CAM), Linda Whitley - New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Cathy Penny - St. Ann Catholic Church,
Bob McLean - New Bethel Church, Jason Johnson - West Clayton Church of God. It is noteworthy that these five
churches served around 9,000 households and distributed approximately 100,000 meals over the past twelve months.
The first meeting of this Committee took place on February 1, 2010 and the Committee now meets on a monthly basis.
One of the first initiatives of the Committee was to coordinate the food distribution schedule among these five
Churches and to make food available every week day.
This was the start of the CLAYTON AREA MINISTRIES Initiative

The Clayton Community Food Committee having made progress on its first two Objectives -- to increase the number
of days food is distributed and to increase the food supply at food banks in Clayton, the Committee was now ready to
take on its third and biggest challenge thus far, that being -- to serve food to needy Johnston County citizens.
This was the start up of the THANKSGIVING EVENT Initiative.
************************************************************************************************************************************************
The Committee's plans for accomplishing this Objective is to host a Thanksgiving sit-down meal to those
households currently being served by the five local Churches and other persons determined by a Thanksgiving Event
Planning Committee to be in need of food. It is planned for this holiday event to be held on Wednesday, November
24, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Clayton Civitan Club has offered the use of their facility for the event. It is
intended that this be a community activity, a first of its kind in Clayton, through the joint efforts of local churches,
civic clubs, city government, community non-profit organizations, veterans organizations, businesses, and volunteers.
The below list of community participants were invited to designate a representative to serve on the Thanksgiving
Event Planning Committee. The members of this Committee are identified below.
This Committee will form the following Subcommittees and any others as needed.
Menu Planning, Food Preparers and Cooks, Meal Servers, Set-Up and Clean-Up, Transportation, Publicity, Prayer and Reflection
If you wish to volunteer to serve on a Thanksgiving Event Subcommittee, Proceed to the
THANKSGIVING Initiative Page.
